BOCCIA BALL
What is Boccia?
Boccia is a highly strategic, inclusive sport designed for individuals with disabilities. The game is played indoors on a smooth court where athletes aim to throw, kick, or use a ramp to propel leather balls as close as possible to a small white target ball, known as the jack.
Whether you're playing one-on-one, in pairs, or on a team, boccia is about more than winning—it’s about precision, focus, teamwork, and fun. Players of all levels and abilities are welcome, and equipment can be adapted to fit individual needs.
At SoCal Adaptive Sports, boccia offers a welcoming environment to build confidence, sharpen skills, and connect with others through the joy of competition and community.
Boccia in the Paralympics
Boccia became a Paralympic sport in 1984. It remains one of the few sports exclusively played in the Paralympics, with no Olympic equivalent.
Since its debut, boccia has grown globally, now played in over 75 countries and governed by World Boccia. The sport features multiple classifications to ensure fair and competitive play among athletes with varying levels of physical function.
What makes boccia so unique at the Paralympic level is not just the skill and precision required, but the incredible strategy and heart displayed by its athletes.
